Data are fast becoming the backbone for research and scientific breakthroughs. Finding ways to leverage the use of data across disciplines and programs through open data initiatives that promote the reuse of data for a variety of research goals is an important step toward the discovery of new innovations. HealthData.gov and other projects are making open data trends more commonplace in health sciences research. Health sciences librarians play an important role in organizing and curating data. Librarians also play a vital role in promoting open data initiatives and projects. This session will focus on the roles that librarians play in open data initiatives at their respective institutions.

4:35 PM – 4:54 PM – A Tale of Two Data Catalogs

4:54 PM – 5:13 PM – Building Blocks: Contributing to Open Data Initiatives by Teaching Data Reuse Workshops Room: Columbus AB, Gold Level, East Tower

5:13 PM – 5:32 PM – Data Management, Open Data, and the Library: The 1K Challenge Room: Columbus AB, Gold Level, East Tower

5:32 PM – 5:51 PM – Beyond the Data Flood: Opportunities for Data Engagement Room: Columbus AB, Gold Level, East Tower

Librarian’s Role in the Translational Science Research Team

Monday, May 19, 2:05-3:20 PM

Location: Columbus KL, Gold Level, East Tower
Section Program: 20
Lead Sponsor: Medical Informatics Section.
Cosponsors: Public Services Section, Corporate Information Services Section, Translational Sciences Collaboration SIG, Libraries in Curriculum SIG
Program format: Presentation and discussion panel: invited speakers and contributed papers
Description: A librarian’s research expertise and knowledge of academic information resources are valuable input elements for the success of translational medical research.
